In fact, there are people who often hack into your Wi-Fi network because of it having a weak password. Change the Wi-Fi password on your router

As mentioned above, this method is by far the most secure or rather the simplest. However, again, it depends on which kind of user tries to re-access it.

When you change your Wi-Fi password on your router, it will force out all the unwanted users who had access to your network with or without your consent. Whether it’s you or other users, all will be logged out of your Wi-Fi when you change its password. To get access again, they will need to reenter the new password that only you have.

Sure, it might get a little hectic re-connecting all your devices back to your Wi-Fi with your new password, but at least it gets the job done.

Depending on the model of Wi-Fi router, here’s how you can change your router’s Wi-Fi password:

Sign in to your router. To do this, you will need to enter in a specific IP address into your browser’s address bar. It’s usually 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254. However, it could be something different. Don’t worry, even if you don’t know the IP, you can find it at the back of your router box, which usually also comes with the login admin/ password. Another option would be to Google it.

Enter in the admin and password. You’ll find it on the router or online. If it’s changed, you need to do a factory reset.

Look for the place on the menu where you made the last change to your password. You’ll probably find it under Wireless Settings/Security/Advanced. Alternatively, look to see if there is an option to change the password.

Look for the Wi-Fi password spaces and then change it to your new password with confirmation.

Save the settings and sign out of the router.

Reset or refresh the router after you’ve made the changes.

That’s it! Now enter in the new password on all your devices that were previously connected.

Method 2 – Factory Reset Your Router & Change Password

Just in case you can’t go ahead with method 1, mostly because you’ve lost access to the password or maybe the password was changed by someone other than you, a factory reset is what you need. This will revert all default settings, restoring the original password. It will allow you to gain access back to your router. Through this you can then control it.

In most cases, there are numerous routers that already come with a “factory reset” button that will allow you to do this. Don’t confuse it with the reboot button, as that just refreshes it. To reset it, there’s a hole at the back of the router that you need to push into with a thin pointer or pin, or just about anything that fits. You may lose all your previous settings though. Now proceed and reboot your router. Once that’s done, sign in to your router and change the password with a new one.

Method 3 – Use MAC Filtering to restrict certain device access

You will find that some routers offer features that allow you to control or skim through devices that are permitted to connect. With that said, every wireless device has a different Mac address, and you can use your router to block or whitelist certain mac IPs from accessing your network.

Even though this is a convenient way to prevent people from connecting to your network, it’s not safe. If someone were to have access to your network’s main password, they can easily change their device’s mac address so that it resembles one that is permitted on your network. This means that if the wrong person or hacker has this kind of access, they can easily infiltrate your network.

However, if you’re still willing to use this step, here’s how to get started:

Sign in to your router.

Now, look for all the connected Mac addresses over your network. You will find it under Devices/Wireless.

Now, skim through it and kick out any of the mac addresses from your network.

Now look for the Mac Filtering settings, which are usually found under “Devices, Wireless, Security, Advanced,” or related.

Enter in the Mac device addresses that you want to block out of your network.

Click on the “Deny/Disable/Block” option

Save these settings and sign out of your router.

That’s all! You’ve now kicked off people from your Wi-Fi network. However, understand that there is a sure way to curb these changes depending on how advanced the perpetrator is.

Method 4 – Delete the Wi-Fi password of the user’s device

This method works 50% as the chances of it are low. In this circumstance, if you do have access to the user’s device, then you can attempt to delete the Wi-Fi password off their device. It, in short, forgets the saved password and will force the user to re-enter the new password with consent from you.

Using your Windows 10, here’s how you can get started:

Once you get access to the device that you’d like to kick off your Wi-Fi network, go to “Settings.”

Click on “Network & Internet,” then on “Wi-Fi” and then on “Manage Wi-Fi Settings.”

Alternatively, you can also click on the Wi-Fi icon on the bottom-right corner. Then click on “Wi-Fi,” and then on “Manage Wi-Fi Settings.”

Look for “Manage Known Networks.”

Click on the correct Wi-Fi network and then click on “Forget.” This will automatically take off the Wi-Fi network password from your device.

Method 5 – Use and set up a Guest Network

This method works the best if you’re planning on allowing a few guests to use your Wi-Fi. Instead of giving them access to your Wi-Fi, you could create a guest network on your router. By doing this, your guests will get access to the standby network instead of being constantly connected to the main Wi-Fi network. For example, let’s say your main network is “MyWiFinetwork,” you can make one for guests by the name of “MyWiFinetwork – not yours”

You’ll find these settings in numerous routers. It goes by “guest network” or “guest access.” you can create a different password for guest users. The plus side is that you can even change this password without tampering with the main Wi-Fi password. Keep in mind that this is only for some routers that offer the guest network option.

Here’s how you can get started:

Sign in to your router.

Look around for a “Guest Network” option. You might find it under “Wireless, Advanced, or Network Settings.”

When you find it, set the name/SSID and password for the guest network.

You have the option of setting a password for it or leaving it open.

This option is usually seen at public places like a coffee shop or the airport, especially when you look for free Wi-Fi spots. Through it, users won’t have access to your main network or the file-sharing option. If, however, you’re the one who plans on using or accessing someone else’s Wi-Fi, make sure you use a VPN for added security.

To conclude

You now know the easiest methods showing you how to kick someone off your Wi-Fi router!
