How To Reset Windows 10 And Windows 11?

Before taking any serious measures, you can do a few things if your Windows computer is acting strangely. To make sure your hard drive is in good condition, you can perform diagnostic checks. There is a method to uninstall Windows updates and see if that resolves the issue or if it is the cause of the problem.

It might be time to return your PC to its original settings if none of these fixes resolve the issue or if you intend to replace the device. Depending on the options you select, this process may erase your files and existing settings, so be careful to back up your files before beginning.

In Windows 10 and Windows 11, a factory reset is helpful if your machine has been giving you trouble. It will give Windows a new start and virtually reset your computer to the condition it was in when it came off the assembly line.

Precautions To Follow Before Executing A Factory Reset

Not every device is prepared for a factory reset. There are a few things to think about before you take this move. Before you factory reset any Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, build an image-based backup and make sure you have the tools required to restore it.

Think about a backup program that produces recovery media, which is usually kept on a USB flash drive and can be used to build bootable media. You can boot to this media to return the computer to its pre-reset condition if the factory reset doesn’t work as intended.

Why To Do A Factory Reset?

There are two conditions when a factory reset is typically required. The first possibility is when a computer is turned off and sold or given to a different user. The factory reset puts the PC in a new state ready for sale or handoff by wiping out all changes made after it left the factory.

The second situation is when a computer shows discernible issues with stability, performance, or behavior. In Windows 10 and Windows 11, there’s not much that an in-place upgrade repair install can’t remedy, but occasionally even that trick won’t get a computer back to normal. In that case, the next step toward Windows recovery could be a clean install or a factory reset.

Thus, the PC can be returned to its original Windows condition by performing a factory reset.

How to Reset Windows 10

  • To access the Settings window, click the Start Menu and choose the gear icon located in the lower-left corner. To proceed, select Update & Security under Settings.
  • Select Get Started under Reset this PC after clicking the Recovery tab.
  • If you select Keep My Files, the PC’s default apps and settings will be those from when it was new. To disable this setting, click the Change Settings link and do the necessary. There is a further option to erase your files without erasing your apps and settings if you select Remove Everything.
  • Toggle the Data erasure option to ON by clicking the Change options link.
  • After you’ve determined what needs to be deleted from the computer, click Next. Windows will then inform you of what will be erased before you confirm your selection. You can view a list of the apps that the reset will remove if you choose to Keep My Files.
  • To commit, click Reset at the end. After a few minutes, your computer will restart and restart.

How to Reset Windows 11

  • Select “System” from the menu on the left, then “Settings,” and finally, “Recovery.”
  • Select “Reset PC.”
  • If you’re selling, discarding, or giving away your PC, select the option to keep your files or delete everything from the new popup window that appears.
  • Click “Next” when presented with the option to reinstall Windows from your device, which will restore all of your settings and drivers.
  • Depending on whether you decide to keep your data or not, you might see a few more warning messages on your computer. After reviewing the messages, select “Reset” to initiate the process if you’re certain.

Conclusion:

That’s the basic method for cleaning your PC. You now understand the major actions involved in clearing up large and superfluous files in Windows 10 and 11. Your work is done if you are getting rid of the pc. If not, log back into Windows and confirm that the computer has been cleared of the items you chose to delete. Your files can now be restored to the computer if you use a Recovery Drive or an internet backup service to back them up.
