How to Fix Wi-Fi Connection Issues on PS4

If your PS4 is not connected to Wi-Fi, you will miss out on the best PS4 features, including installing new games, playing multiplayer games, and streaming videos.

Luckily, there are multiple ways to troubleshoot connections to fix PS4 connectivity. This blog aims to explain how to fix it when PS4 won’t connect to Wi-Fi. Before explaining the solution, let’s talk about the causes of PS4 not connecting to the internet.

Why Is My PS4 Not Connecting to the Internet?

There may be various reasons why your PS4 is not connecting to Wi-Fi, but some of the most obvious reasons are:

  • PlayStation Network is offline.
  • The router is experiencing connectivity problems.
  • You’re using the wrong password or username.
  • Your DNS Settings on the PlayStation need proper configuration.

How to Fix Wi-Fi Issues on PS4

You can easily connect your PS4 to the internet by following the steps outlined below.

Check your PlayStation Network Status

Before following the essential troubleshooting steps, it’s always recommended to ensure that PlayStation Network is online and not suffering downtime.

To make sure that it’s online, check PSN Status Page. If the status is green, then you’re good to go. If the connection is down, you have to wait for it to come back online.

Check If the Issue is with your PS4 or Wi-Fi

Before jumping to a conclusion, it’s better to determine where the problem lies. You can connect your other devices to the home network to check whether the internet is not working or the issue is with your PS4.

If your PS4 is connected with an Ethernet cable, check your computer using the same cable with the router to ensure that your internet is working.

If the PS4 is connected via Wi-Fi, you can connect your cellphone or any other device with the same network to see how it is working on the same network.

Reboot Your Modem and Router

If all of your devices fail to connect, it’s high time to reboot your router or modem. Wait for a few minutes and switch them on. Once you reboot your router and modem, you can also reboot your PS4. It will completely power your device down, then power it on. Rebooting devices usually fix connection issues.

Check your Console Connectivity to the Router

If your PS4 is not connected to the internet, it’s hard to find whether the issue is with the console or the internet itself. Following this trick will help. For instance, if you’re using an Ethernet cable, swap the port and plug your cable into another router port.

Move the PS4 Console Near the Wireless Router

Sometimes the distance or the objects between the console and the router causes intermittent signal loss. Therefore, you should place both router and console closer in the first place. If it doesn’t make any difference, then reboot both devices and connect again.

Alter the Wi-Fi Network’s Channel Number

Mostly, all the internet-connected devices use a common radio frequency range by default.  The same channel could be used by your neighbors too. Hence, you have to change the channel on the wireless router to create a strong connection and get rid of the same old narrow radio frequency range. It will drastically improve your PS4 network connectivity.

Use the Correct PS4 Wi-Fi Password

When using Wi-Fi, make sure to enter the correct password. If you wish to re-enter the password for PS4, here’s how to do it:

  • Use the PS4 controller and select Settings.
  • Select Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
  • Select Use Wi-Fi.
  • Select Easy.
  • Pick your Wi-Fi name from the available list, enter the password, and wait for the connection to be established.

Configure DNS Settings on PS4

If the PS4’s DNS server settings are not properly configured, it may fail to connect you to the services. Here’s how to configure DNS settings on PS4:

  • Using the PS4 menu, select Settings.
  • Choose Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
  • Pick either Use Wi-Fi or Use a LAN Cable, depending upon how you’re connecting.
  • Select Custom. If necessary, choose your Wi-Fi network from the list.
  • Choose Automatic. Then select Do Not Specify and then Manual.
  • Pick Primary DNS and then enter 1.1.1.1.
  • Select Secondary DNS and then enter 1.0.0.1.
  • Select Next.
  • Choose Automatic.
  • Select Do Not Use.

You may now test your network connection.

Initialize PS4

Lastly, you can also reset the PS4 to its default settings. If your PS4 isn’t connected to the internet even after a factory reset, you may have your system files corrupted during abrupt shutdowns.

Keep in mind that initializing the PS4 will remove all games, save data, gameplay clips that you may have on your console. Back your data before proceeding.

Here’s how to factory reset PS4:

  • Head to PS4 Settings.
  • Click on Initialization.
  • Now, select Initialize and follow the on-screen prompts to continue with the process.

Conclusion

If none of the solutions get you online, contact the official PlayStation Support for help. It’s a stretch, but it could be a defect in the Wi-Fi module of your PS4. In which case, Sony might ask you to return it for a replacement.
